Christmas Tree 2005
Fencing wire, driftwood, sandstone,
burlap, Christmas ornaments
2005
In an attempt to counter-act the Australian holiday tradition of bright green plastic trees, I set about creating my own version of a Christmas tree more suited to our environment.
The burlap and sandstone base root the tree firmly in Australian colonial history, while the wire frame brings the sculpture into more modern times.
A driftwood trunk and star gathered from a Queensland beach are both instant reminders of Christmas holidays in the stifling Australian summer.
